If you think you've got a voice for singing but don't want to go the
Canadian Idol route to fame and fortune, the guys from
SAGA would like to hear from you.
SAGA, the Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1977 and known for such
hits as "Wind Him Up," "On the Loose" and
"The Flyer" are on the lookout for a new singer and are holding open
auditions through their web site,
www.sagaontour.ca.
"We're looking for somebody confident, with character, and a set of pipes
is a must," said Ian Crichton, the band's long-
time guitarist, from his Toronto home. “After 30 years, we keep filling
halls on tour. We love playing. We feel there's a
right voice out there for the band ...it would be great if it was
Canadian!”
On SAGA's web site, the band has uploaded sound check versions of
classics "Wind Him Up" and "On The Loose," without
lead vocals. The band asks aspiring singers to upload their take on
SAGA's classics to video web site YouTube and to
notify the band of the postings.
"So far the search is going great," said Crichton. "(We've had) a lot of
postings on our web site, 15 so far."
Mike Sadler, the former lead singer of the band, posted on his web site
that he parted ways with SAGA for "personal
reasons," following the band's recent European tour in support of their
latest album, 10,000 Days.
"I have decided to step down from my role as musician for SAGA and will
try to spend more time with my family," wrote
Sadler in a posting dated December 17th. "Having said that, I am not
retiring from music and will continue to participate
in various projects and events as they come up."
Despite Sadler's departure, the members of SAGA, also including Jim
Crichton (bass), Jim Gilmour (keyboards) and Brian
Doerner (drums) are still focused on more recording and touring in the
future, once a new lead singer has been found.
"We'll be wrapping up the search when we find the guy," said Crichton.
"But there is a pending South American tour to be
had in 2 months or so...so?? Where are you?!"
